Hasshub

This term has multiple meanings in the Bible:

1. Merari clan leader of Levi’s tribe. Hasshub was the father of Shemaiah, a settler in Jerusalem after the return from captivity (1 Chr 9:14; Neh 11:15).→ View encyclopedia entry

2. Pahath-moab’s son, who repaired a section of the Jerusalem wall and the Tower of the Ovens during the time of Nehemiah (Neh 3:11).→ View encyclopedia entry

3. Another Hasshub who repaired the Jerusalem wall opposite his house (Neh 3:23).→ View encyclopedia entry

4. Leader who signed Ezra’s covenant of faithfulness to God with Nehemiah and others after the exile (Neh 10:23).
