Son of Machir, grandson of Manasseh, and great-grandson of the patriarch Joseph. Gilead lived during the time of the Egyptian slavery and wilderness wandering of the Israelites.
About Gilead
A son of Makir from the tribe of Manasseh (Numbers 26:29–33). He was leader of the clan of his descendants during the time of Moses (26:29; 27:1; 36:1).

But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth-jair, along with Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages. All these were descendants of Machir the father of Gilead.
