A Levitical town in the territory of Benjamin; home of the prophet Jeremiah.
About Anathoth
A town in Benjamin’s territory given to the Levites to live in (Joshua 21:18; 1 Chronicles 6:60). Anathoth may have been named by the Canaanites for their goddess Anath or later by the Israelites for one of Benjamin’s descendants (1 Chronicles 7:8).
The town was probably located at Ras el-Karrubeh near the modern town of Anata 4.8 kilometers (three miles) north of Jerusalem. Its residents were sometimes called Anethothites or Anetothites (2 Samuel 23:27; 1 Chronicles 27:12).

These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the people of Anathoth who are seeking your life and saying, “You must not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand.”
There will be no remnant, for I will bring disaster on the people of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.”

Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.’
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
So I bought the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I weighed out seventeen shekels of silver.
