Sabbath day’s journey

ACT 1:12: Jewish sources approximately contemporary with the New Testament period defined “a Sabbath day’s journey” as 2,000 cubits, which is about one kilometer or 1,000 yards. Some translations express this as “about half a mile” (GNT) or “about a kilometer” (PV). ITCL renders it in terms of the amount of walking time, “a half hour’s walk.” SPCL expands it to “exactly that which the law permitted one to walk on the day of rest,” although this may be felt to be too cumbersome. Also, this rendering still does not tell the reader what distance was involved.
