Shelemiah

This term has multiple meanings in the Bible:

1. Korahite from the tribe of Levi and a gatekeeper who was chosen by lot to guard the east gate of the sanctuary during David’s reign (1 Chr 26:14); also named Meshelemiah (vv 1–2). See Meshelemiah.→ View encyclopedia entry

2–3. Two of Binnui’s sons, who were encouraged to divorce their foreign wives during Ezra’s postexilic reforms in Israel (Ezr 10:39–41).

4. Father of Hananiah. Hananiah repaired a section of the Jerusalem wall under Nehemiah (Neh 3:30).→ View encyclopedia entry

5. Priest and one of the three men appointed by Nehemiah as the treasurers of the temple in Jerusalem. Their task was to oversee the distribution of the tithes among their fellow priests (Neh 13:13).→ View encyclopedia entry
