Glue

Greek συγκολλάω (sugkollaō (verb))

Description and usage

Glue is an adhesive substance used to stick one thing to another.

Translation

While nearly all languages have a word for adhesive substances, the Greek text of SIR 22:7 actually uses a verb, and many translations will prefer to describe the action of sticking two things back together; for example, GNT has “Trying to teach a fool is like gluing a broken pot back together ….” Some languages may distinguish between different kinds of adhesives. The glue chosen here should be appropriate for sticking together pieces of earthenware pottery.
