MAT 13:33: The precise amount of flour is not important here, although the translation will want to indicate that it is a relatively large amount. Translators sometimes render “three measures” (RSV) as “three containers” or as three of some well-known local equivalent measure, such as “three pans.” The other choice would be to use whatever the local way would be of speaking about approximately 50 pounds or 40 liters of flour; for example, GNT has “a bushel.” Common-language translations tend to avoid using a specific volume. CEV has “three big batches,” NCV renders “a large tub,” and GW and ITCL say simply “a large amount.”
