Description
Bars or poles made of acacia wood were passed through rings attached to the frames. The dimensions of these poles are not given, although EXO 26:28 says that the center pole ran the entire length of the Tabernacle wall, that is, 30 cubits (15 meters; 50 feet) for the side walls and 10 cubits (5 meters; 16.5 feet) for the back wall. There were five such crossbars along each of the three walls (see the discussion below), and they were overlaid with gold. See the illustration at Ring.
Translation
EXO 26:28 states that the middle or “center crossbar” (CEV) passed through the rings “from end to end” (RSV). As noted above, this means that it extended the length of the wall. The length of the other four crossbars is not stated. It is commonly thought that there were only three lines of rings. If this were so, it would mean that the other four crossbars were each half the length of the middle crossbar and ran half the length of the wall. This information will probably not be reflected in translation, but it may be useful to include it in a footnote or illustration.
