Paper was a material for writing on, made from the papyrus plant.
Translation
The name of any material commonly used in the receptor culture for writing letters on may serve as a rendering for the word “paper” in 2JN 1:12.
In 2ES 15:2 the focus is not on the material on which the writing is done but on the writing itself. So for the literal text “cause them to be written on paper” (RSV), GNT has “have them written down.”
