Sail

OAI-0049_ship_mast_sail_net

Description and usage

The sail was a cloth attached above a boat in such a way as to catch the wind and thus propel the boat through the water.

Translation

A sail may be rendered in some languages as “piece of cloth to make the ship move” or “cloth on the ship to catch the wind.” In ACT 27:40 the Greek word artemōn may refer to the foresail, that is, a relatively small sail toward the prow or front of the ship.
