Description
The deck was a platform extending from one side of a ship to the other side. Larger ships could have more than one deck at different levels. The ark described in GEN 6:0 had three decks.
Translation
A “deck” in a ship is equivalent to a “floor” in a building, and some translations of GEN 6:16 use “stories” (CEV). GECL expands the last clause of this verse, saying “put in two middle decks, so that it is three floors high.” The three decks of the large ship built by Noah were evidently all inside the ship, because the whole structure was roofed, unlike a normal ancient ship.
