Description and usage
The “closet” was actually a niche built into a wall of a house in which objects could be kept.
Translation
The Hebrew word meltachah in 2KI 10:22 indicates a place for storing clothes, that is, a “clothes closet” or “wardrobe.” It will be confusing in some languages to say that a person is responsible for a closet and getting the clothes from it. It is preferable to follow GNT and others and avoid using the name of the object. For the whole verse GNT says “Then Jehu ordered the priest in charge of the sacred robes to bring the robes out and give them to the worshipers.”
The Greek word kulikeion refers to a place or stand for storing drinking vessels, that is, a “cupboard.” In 1MA 15:32 the items stored seem to include more than just cups. In English the word “cupboard” has come to indicate a general storage place. Other languages may have a similar generic term or even a specific term for a place for storing eating utensils like cups and plates.
