Containers for storage

Storage jars were containers of varying size used for holding and storing liquids such as water and oil or dry foods such as grains. These containers were generally carved out of soft stone or were made from clay. They were more or less cylindrical in shape with an opening at the top. The opening could be closed with a lid (see Lid, cover).
