Description
The siege wall was a fence of poles or stakes used to fortify entrenchments. Sometimes such a wall was reinforced with, or even made of, earth and stones.
Usage
When an army was trying to capture a walled and fortified city, it surrounded the city with an extra wall, which would prevent any of the inhabitants of the city from escaping or launching an attack against the besiegers. Such a wall would also prevent the people in the city from sending for help or from bringing in food and water. After some time the city would be forced to surrender (see DEU 20:20).
Translation
