Cushion, pillow

Description and usage

The pillow was an object, usually soft, on which a person would lay his or her head.

Translation

It is important to avoid a translation in MRK 4:38 that would suggest that Jesus was so small or curled up as to be able to sleep on a single pillow. GECL, for example, has Jesus lying “on a seat-cushion.” It is better to say “with his head on a cushion” (NLT) or “with his head on a pillow” (GNT, CEV).
