Two types of juniper grew in the Holy Land in Bible times: the Grecian juniper, referred to by the generic Hebrew word berosh, and the Phoenician juniper (or, coastal juniper), referred to as ’erez in the Pentateuch and as ‘ar‘ar in Jeremiah.
